Alliance to Restore the Coast
The Alliance to restore the Coast (ARC) is a non-profit, community-based organization aimed at economic empowerment of local communities through various environmental projects dealing with the restoration of the Tanzanian coast.

We are a committed group of volunteers who believe in a holistic approach towards managing sustainable ecosystems. We engage in a range of environmental and educational projects in Pwani Region, Tanzania.

Our Focus: Mangrove Forest Restoration
Our current key focus is the conservation, nurturing, and restoration of Bagamoyo’s mangrove forests.

ARC has established a pilot program to protect Bagamoyo’s mangroves. We are collecting and planting seeds of various mangrove species, are safeguarding and nurturing the nurseries – and are establishing safe zones for mangrove forests.

ARC is striving to protect the existing forests through cooperation with local authorities and active collaboration with all stakeholders involved, e.g. by hosting advocacy programs with local inhabitants and loggers.

Local communities are being sensitized to the importance of mangrove ecosystems, and we are collaborating to find mutually beneficial alternatives to cutting mangroves as sources of income.
